The contemporary classic: Louis Vuitton's revamped GO-14 handbag - Revive

Recall back to October 2014 when Nicolas Ghesquière unveiled his inaugural collection as the creative director of Louis Vuitton. Now, nearly a decade later, Louis Vuitton has reimagined one of his original handbag designs, introducing the GO-14. This quilted lambskin bag has already graced the arms of notable figures like Cate Blanchett and Emma Stone, and it's poised to become a top contender for your Christmas wishlist.

The name "GO-14" is a code that signifies "Ghesquière October 2014." This bag made its debut on the runway during Nicolas Ghesquière's initial stint as artistic director at Louis Vuitton, marking one of his earliest creations for the brand. For its 2023 revival, it has been reimagined with a fresh appearance, featuring a distinctive attribute that harks back to Louis Vuitton's heritage: malletage, a crisscross padded pattern originally found inside Louis Vuitton trunks.

This iconic hallmark of the brand has now become the signature feature of the GO-14, crafted from padded lambskin, offering a plush and contoured texture. The bag is available in a range of colors, including classic black and brown, as well as a striking monochromatic style that Cate Blanchett has already sported. Offered in large, medium, or mini sizes, it can be worn as a crossbody or a shoulder bag, making it a versatile addition to your wardrobe. The house of Louis Vuitton describes the GO-14 as "a testament to exceptional craftsmanship and a reflection of our rich heritage." The malletage, in particular, presents a significant challenge for artisans, involving over 20 distinct steps, including meticulous attention to detail on the leather to achieve a satin or toasted finish and perfecting the subtle color gradients. A highly precise technique is also required to apply the 17-meter-long trim for the rounded malletage on each GO-14. In essence, it is a far more intricate process than conventional quilting.

Currently, the new GO-14 is exclusively available for purchase in select Louis Vuitton boutiques. If you're interested in buying a second-hand original GO-14 from past years, it will be soon in stock on our e-commerce alongside with a curated selection of Louis Vuitton black handbags, ideal for enhancing your winter outfits. Stay tuned!
